Imagine a world living with technology a size of an atom – they’re tiny, really tiny – cannot be seen by the naked eye.
We live in a world of advancing technology. As I have read in an article – the world of nanotechnology has been popularized. It is world of controlling the shape and size of matter at the nanoscale level, which is measuring in nanometers – one billionth of a meter, or approximately 100,000 nanometers in diameter of a human hair. This means – we have technologies the size on an atom – not to be exaggerated but this is true.
Curiously, I’ve made researches regarding on the topic nanotechnology in an advancing society. Uldrich (2006) said that nanotechnology is the future generation – the transformational technology of the century. It came to the society gradually developing from passive nanostructure with materials design to perform one task, to active nanostructure with materials with multitasking ability, up to the system of nanosystems that consist of thousands of interacting components.
As nanotechnology spreaded, more developments have come about and because of these developments, nanotechnology has helped the society in prolonging and improving the qualities of life.
How? Well, first is that nanotechnology has helped in the economic industry. It has helped in the energy production like developing the performance of batteries which can be good as new after sitting on the shelf for decades and which can be recharged significantly faster than conventional batteries. It also helped in the production of lighter and stronger materials for the transportation and infrastructures and it has helped in the production of smaller and more powerful weapons and surveillance devices.
Nanotechnology has also helped in the medical field. It has helped in designing pharmaceutical that helps cure people faster without side-effects. It has also helped in tissue regeneration, bone repair, immunity, and cure for diseases. Also, it has helped in assisting on surgeries and repair hard-to-operate areas in the body.
Also, nanotechnology has greatly helped in cleansing the environment. It has helped in eliminating chemical toxins in the environment with nanorobots that has the ability to eat these toxins. It has also helped in recycling all garbage with nanomaterials that can make objects as recyclable as structures built and rebuilt out of blocks, thus reducing our resource consumption.
Nanotechnology has certainly made products and devices that are very useful to the society. It’s amazing how technology has evolved and developed for the use in the society. This powerful technology will radically extend the capabilities of practically every area of human endeavor by exploring the ultimate limits of fabrication. Nanotechnology is the potential answer to all of our problems.
